Product Line of Routers and Access Points
A well-respected mobile router manufacturer initially approached SGW Designworks for enclosure design. A long-term relationship ensued, with both companies collaborating on multiple industrial design and engineering projects.

SGW Designworks provided services for diverse projects, ranging from developing visual brand language to designing and engineering new product packaging.

Product Vision
Cradlepoint is an undisputed leader in enterprise networking and routers. The company had a robust product roadmap in mind, with many products to be launched for different use cases.
As Cradlepoint began developing these products, including their next-generation 5G endpoints, its marketing group decided it was time to define a new look as forward-looking as the 5G itself. All designs would need to carry the brand’s identity, provide specific functionality, and meet cost targets.
For Cradlepoint’s Enterprise Access Point, the product would need a look compatible with many different retail and industrial applications, while providing visual differentiation from other products and without being overly conspicuous when wall or ceiling mounted. It would need to be easy to manufacture in mid to high volumes and had to provide internal consideration for antennae, cable routing, and connectors.
Since Cradlepoint had worked with SGW Designworks on other enclosure design and engineering projects, they felt confident engaging for these new, larger efforts.
Final Outcome
What originally began as a single enclosure design project evolved to include multiple product development efforts, requiring industrial design, UX, and packaging design.
As the relationship progressed, SGW developed multiple industrial design concepts that ultimately helped Cradlepoint successfully launch its Wi-Fi access point, the commercialized AP22. The design objectives were achieved by developing a subtle yet unique exterior shape, with multiple textures to create a specific visual effect. Functional goals were achieved by applying sound engineering and manufacturing insights throughout the industrial design project.
The continual release of innovative new products earned Cradlepoint recognition as the Innovative Company of the Year at the 2019 Idaho Innovation Awards.
