Engineering Analysis for Product Development

Engineering analysis answers the questions that would otherwise be answered by broken prototypes. Will this part survive the load? Will these parts fit and seal across production variation? Will this mechanism deliver the force we need? Answering them early saves time, tooling, and redesign. SGW uses finite element analysis, tolerance stack-ups, and engineering calculations to guide design decisions on products and equipment. We model stress, stiffness, and deflection, check how variation in parts and assembly affects fit and function, and size mechanisms, fasteners, and structures with documented calculations. For Sharps Rifle Company, we used FEA to develop new bolt lug geometry that could displace carbon buildup while still withstanding the forces of firing. For Preco, tolerance stack-up analysis led us to a sonically welded assembly that held an IP69K seal across material and component variation.

Engineering Analysis for Product Development

Trusted by

Analysis we perform

  • Finite element analysis for stress, stiffness, and deflection
  • Tolerance stack-ups for fit, alignment, and sealing
  • Mechanism force, torque, and motion calculations
  • Fastener, joint, and weld sizing
  • Thermal estimates for electronics and enclosures

Analysis that changes the design

We use results to adjust geometry, materials, and processes, then confirm with prototypes and testing. Specialized work includes shock and vibration design for rugged products and thermal management for electronics.

Products and equipment

We apply the same methods to small precision parts and to heavy equipment, including FEA on GenZ Technology's crop sprayer and a high-load tread drive for pivot irrigation. Engineering analysis is part of our mechanical engineering services and supports our machine design work.

Frequently asked questions

Can you analyze a design created by another team?

Yes. We can review existing designs, run analysis on areas of concern, and recommend changes.

Does analysis replace testing?

No. Analysis narrows the risks and guides changes, and prototype testing confirms performance.

Do you document the analysis?

Yes. We document the assumptions, methods, and results behind design decisions so your team can review them.

When should analysis happen?

Before tooling or fabrication, while design changes are still inexpensive.
