From test methods to design requirements
Every MIL-STD-810 program is tailored. We help you translate the methods and levels in your requirements into specific design targets for the enclosure, the electronics mounting, and the materials.
- Mechanical shock and transit drop
- Vibration, including vehicle-mounted use
- High and low temperature, operating and storage
- Humidity, rain, and immersion
- Blowing sand and dust
- Solar radiation and UV exposure for outdoor products
Designing in margin
Products that barely pass in the lab tend to fail in the field. We design with margin on the conditions that matter most, using shock and vibration analysis to find weak structures and mounts, thermal management for temperature extremes, and enclosure sealing for water and dust.
Supporting the test program
We help plan a test sequence that surfaces problems early, support testing at qualified outside labs, and update the design based on results. Once the design is validated, we prepare documentation so production units are built the way the tested units were. This work is part of our mechanical engineering services.
Frequently asked questions
Does SGW perform MIL-STD-810 testing?
Formal testing is performed at qualified outside labs. We design to the applicable methods, help plan the test sequence, and support the program through testing and any redesign.
What does MIL-STD-810 compliant mean?
It means a product passed the specific test methods and levels selected for it. Because programs are tailored, it is important to know which methods were run and at what levels.
Can you help with MIL-STD-461 as well?
MIL-STD-461 covers electromagnetic interference. Our electrical engineers design with emissions and susceptibility in mind, and formal testing is done at accredited labs. Tell us your requirements and we will discuss fit.
Do you only work on defense products?
No. Many commercial products, including rugged handhelds, vehicle electronics, and outdoor equipment, use MIL-STD-810 methods as a durability benchmark.
