Agricultural Equipment Design

Agricultural equipment works in mud, dust, heat, and cold, often far from a service shop. It carries large loads, folds and unfolds for transport, and has to be affordable for growers. Designs that look good on paper can fail quickly in the field, and every failure costs a farmer time in a short season. SGW designs agricultural equipment and components with field conditions in mind. We engineer structures, mechanisms, and assemblies for real loads, use finite element analysis to find weak points before prototypes are built, and design for the fabrication methods and production volumes that fit the product. Our ag work includes redesigning GenZ Technology's advanced crop sprayer to reduce production cost, strengthen substructures, and improve its folding mechanisms and airflow, and engineering a heavy-duty injection molded tread drive for pivot irrigation that reduces field ruts while carrying massive loads.

What we design

  • Sprayers, implements, and attachments
  • Irrigation equipment and drive components
  • Folding and transport mechanisms
  • Frames, booms, and structural weldments
  • Molded and fabricated components for high-load applications

Built for the field

We design for load, vibration, corrosion, and contamination using structural analysis, and match each part to a manufacturing method, from sheet metal and weldments to injection molded parts.

From prototype to production

We build and test prototypes, refine designs based on field results, and prepare documentation and supplier support for production. Agricultural equipment design is part of our product design services and our industrial product development work.

Frequently asked questions

Can you improve an existing piece of equipment?

Yes. Many projects start with a working prototype or existing product that needs to be stronger, lighter, cheaper to build, or easier to use.

Do you design electronics and controls for ag equipment?

Our electrical and firmware engineers can integrate sensors, controls, and operator interfaces. Tell us your requirements and we will discuss fit.

Do you build prototypes for field testing?

Yes. We build functional prototypes to test under real loads and conditions before production.

Can you help reduce production cost?

Yes. Reducing production cost was a key goal on our crop sprayer redesign, through design changes and optimization.
