SGW Designworks partnered with Spartan Radar, a software-focused startup, to provide comprehensive product development support for their radar sensor hardware. This involved establishing a robust physical system architecture, managing the complex hardware project, and executing the mechanical design, while also guiding the client's green electrical engineering team. The goal was to quickly develop functional prototypes to showcase their software to OEMs.

Spartan Radar had an existing, preliminary hardware design that was not performing to targets due to a number of design issues. They needed to address functional issues and get the design ready to produce.

As a startup, they lacked in-house mechanical engineering expertise and robust hardware project management capabilities. They needed to rapidly develop a functional and manufacturable radar enclosure and integrated system to meet a tight OEM sales cycle, seeing the hardware primarily as a "vehicle" for their software.

Conducting a comprehensive design review that quickly identified critical flaws in the existing hardware, shifting the client's perspective on the importance of robust hardware development.
Taking on physical system architecture and overall project management for the hardware, driving the mechanical design and overseeing hardware and firmware from a packaging perspective.
Working closely with the client's electrical engineers to define layout constraints and incorporate necessary RF mitigations within the enclosure.
Developing multiple working prototypes through iterative strategies to meet aggressive sales cycle deadlines.
Guiding the client through the pre-manufacturing process, including manufacturing quoting, for the complete enclosure design.
Selecting appropriate materials for RF transparency, durability (e.g., 5-10 years in the sun), sealing, and impact resistance for rugged environments.

The project proved SGW Designworks' ability to come in and augment a startup team from the top down, providing essential guidance, product strategy, and engineering execution to bring theoretical concepts into physical reality.
